Intoxicated Driver Charged with Murder After Fatal Kirkwood Crash Following Police Chase

KIRKWOOD, Mo. – A guy from St. Louis has been charged with murder after he ran away from police while drunk and crashed, killing another driver in Kirkwood.

Kirkwood Police say they have probable cause to charge John E. Brink, whose age they have not given, with second-degree murder and refusing arrest after the crash on May 4 at 99 miles per hour on Big Bend Boulevard in a 35-mile-per-hour zone.

Court records show that Brink and a passenger were driving a car onto southbound Kirkwood Rd. in a car that didn’t have front license plates. Brink almost hit a police officer’s car. Although the cop tried to stop Brink’s car, the driver continued to drive very quickly.

As the officer got closer to the train track on Kirkwood Road, Brink drove faster as he continued south.

The officer saw that Brink kept driving after making a right turn onto Big Bend Boulevard going west. Brink didn’t want to slow down or stop. Then, Brink ran a red light while going too fast and hit another car, killing the person inside.

Brink was arrested while the cop was on the way to the accident. The person riding in Brink’s car told police that they had bought alcohol and were both drinking from a gallon jug while driving.

Brink lied to the cops about how fast he was going and that he was drunk at the wheel.
