Infant Found with Triple Dose of Benadryl Leads to Daycare Operator’s Indictment

Memphis, Tennessee – After the death of a six-month-old daughter at an unlicensed daycare that the lady was reportedly operating, she has been indicted on counts of first-degree murder and aggravated child negligence. The allegations stem from the incidents that occurred at the daycare.

An apartment on Welshwood Drive was the location of the tragic event that took place on February 8, 2024. After receiving a call, the police arrived and discovered that infant Madison Alberto-Cato was unresponsive. If the authorities are to be believed, the daycare operator, Lourdes Hernandez, who is 35 years old, was allegedly attempting to revive the youngster by pouring water on her head when the mother of the child noticed the incident.

The unfortunate news is that Madison could not be saved despite being taken to a nearby hospital. In a later autopsy, it was discovered that the infant had levels of diphenhydramine that were toxic. Diphenhydramine is an active element in drugs such as Benadryl. According to the findings of the investigation, the amount that was found in her system was roughly three times the maximum dose that is considered acceptable for adults.

Within the flat at the time of the occurrence, there were a total of nine other children who were younger than three years old. Apparently, Hernandez was operating the daycare without a license, according to the authorities.

Hernandez was taken into custody after she moved to a new residence on Zermatt Avenue, where authorities once again found a number of youngsters under her care. Right now, she is being charged with various offenses, one of which is operating a daycare agency without the appropriate licensing.

Her bail has been set at one hundred fifty thousand dollars, and she is expected to testify in the Criminal Court on April 2nd.

As a result of the unfortunate death of Madison Alberto-Cato, the community is in sorrow, and major concerns have been expressed regarding the risks associated with daycare that is not adequately regulated. For the sake of preventing future tragedies of this nature, families who have been impacted by this case are advocating for more stringent laws and enforcement.
