GREENFIELD, Mass. – A man facing accusations in the death of 35-year-old Christopher Hairston has entered a not guilty plea to murder and multiple other charges related to a string of criminal activities that occurred earlier this year.
Michael Janik, a resident of Pencasal Drive in Florence, is currently being held without bail following his arraignment on Tuesday. A 65-year-old man was taken into custody following a call to the police from a woman on Sunday morning at approximately 8:30 a.m.
She recounted her harrowing escape from home after being shot in the stomach, revealing that the man who had attacked her was still inside the residence. Upon arrival, the police reported that he was taken into custody without any issues.
Janik entered a not-guilty plea in Northampton District Court facing seven charges. These include armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery on a family or household member. Additionally, he is charged with three counts of illegal possession of an assault weapon and one count of improper storage of a firearm.
A woman is currently recovering in the hospital, though her name has not yet been disclosed.
