Illinois Man Found Dead After Late-Night Uber Eats Delivery Following Amazon Shift

Chicago, Illinois — A 28-year-old man who had just finished a shift at Amazon before working late as an Uber Eats driver was found dead early Monday morning after completing what was supposed to be his final delivery of the night.

According to Chicago police and local reports, Daniel Figueroa completed a food delivery at Loretto Hospital around 2 a.m. Monday. Shortly afterward, he was discovered unresponsive outside the hospital, and his van was missing.

Figueroa was transported to another hospital, where he later died. Authorities said they are investigating the case as a homicide.

Police said surveillance footage shows Figueroa attempting to stop multiple individuals from taking his van before he was dragged down the street.

What Investigators Say Happened

Local reporting indicates that a doctor who placed the food order was able to track Figueroa’s arrival through the app. When the doctor went outside to retrieve the delivery, he reportedly found Figueroa lying on the ground.

Police told reporters that surveillance cameras captured Figueroa trying to prevent three people — two men and a woman — from stealing his vehicle. He was allegedly dragged for approximately half a block before the van sped away.

Authorities announced Tuesday that a person of interest is in custody, though no formal charges have been announced. The investigation remains active.

Family Says He Was Heading Home

Figueroa’s father told local media that the hospital delivery was meant to be his final stop before going home.

“He was on his way home. This was going to be his last stop,” his father said.

Figueroa had reportedly been working two jobs — at Amazon and with Uber Eats — to support his family.

His girlfriend, Sandra Guerrero, shared that the couple had planned to celebrate her young son’s birthday later that day. In a GoFundMe page created to help cover funeral expenses, she described Figueroa as the main financial provider for their household.

Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact Chicago police.
