DeKalb, Illinois — An Illinois father is facing multiple felony charges after police say he brought his 5-month-old son to a hospital with severe, life-threatening injuries, and the infant later died.
According to the DeKalb Police Department, Dominic G. Larson, 30, arrived at Northwestern Kishwaukee Community Hospital on February 23 with the injured baby.
Infant Rushed to ER With Critical Injuries
Police said hospital staff immediately recognized the seriousness of the child’s condition and rushed him into the emergency room for treatment of what appeared to be life-threatening injuries. Authorities described the baby’s face as severely injured upon arrival.
Deputies from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office responded to the hospital while the infant was receiving care.
During their initial interaction with Larson, deputies reportedly suspected he was intoxicated. According to police, Larson was instructed to remain at the hospital to speak with DeKalb police officers.
Authorities said he attempted to leave despite those instructions and was subsequently physically restrained and handcuffed before being transported to the police department for questioning.
Baby Airlifted, Later Placed on Life Support
Meanwhile, medical staff had the infant airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood due to the severity of his injuries.
Police said doctors determined the child suffered from a fractured skull and brain hemorrhages, among other critical injuries. The infant was placed on life support.
On February 24, hospital staff informed detectives that the baby was unlikely to survive. The child was later pronounced dead that evening.
Authorities described the case as a “horrific and senseless crime.”

Larson has been charged with:
- First-degree murder
- Aggravated battery
- Reckless conduct
- Endangering the life and health of a child
If convicted of first-degree murder, he could face a minimum of 20 years in prison and potentially life behind bars under Illinois law.
