The victim’s mother stated that the guy was “very jealous of her not spending all of her time with him” and “making her life miserable” before shooting her in the neck, chest, shoulder, and hip. The man has acknowledged to shooting his ex-girlfriend following a rough breakup. The man’s confession was made public by the victim’s mother.
As reported by the Belleville News-Democrat and the local CBS station KMOV, Emmet Metzger, who is 27 years old, entered a guilty plea this week to a charge of first-degree murder for the murder of Alexis Maki, who was 24 years old and lived with him in the flat that they shared in New Baden in November 2023.
During the 911 call that Metzger made after shooting Maki, he made a phone confession that was captured on recording. This statement was made after he became aware of what he had done.
KMOV and the News-Democrat reported that Metzger told a dispatcher, “I f—ed up,” as reported by the reporter. “I have committed a terrible act. I was the one who shot my girlfriend. My request is that I be taken into custody.
During the course of their conversation in the living area, Metzger allegedly acknowledged to shooting Maki many times with a 9 mm Taurus G2C pistol. According to Maki’s mother, who spoke to KMOV in February 2024 about their relationship and other incidents that supposedly occurred between them, the ex-couple had broken up a month prior to the shooting, but they still had a shared lease at an apartment on Hanover Street in New Baden. This information was provided by Maki’s mother.
According to Maki’s mother, Lisa Brock, “He was very jealous of her due to the fact that she did not spend all of her time with him.” It was clear that he was making her life a living hell.
According to Brock, Metzger requested her to come over to the flat that they shared on the day of the shooting. He also asked her to bring a dog that the two of them had acquired while they were dating back to the flat so that he could see it for the last time. I told her, ‘I don’t feel good about this,’ and she responded by saying, ‘Neither do I,'” Brock stated in an interview with KMOV. I responded by saying, ‘Don’t go.'”
Brock thought back to the day when her daughter had reassured her that Metgzer had guaranteed her that he would not injure her.
When Brock recalled what he had said, he added, “You don’t know that.”
According to reports, police were called to a pub in Lebanon to investigate an incident that occurred later that evening, just a few hours before the shooting. The altercation involved Metgzer and one of Maki’s coworkers fighting. Metzger is accused of assaulting one of the workers, Giovanni Venuti, who also discussed the alleged event with KMOV in February 2024. Venuti reported that Metzger attacked him.
“[Metzger] got out of his truck, walked up to the passenger side window of Alexis’ car where I was at, and punched me four or five times,” Venuti stated, mentioning that he was left with a chipped tooth and a beaten face as a result of the attack.
Maki was a “proud pet parent of her beloved dog, Echo, and her cats, Scout and Honey,” according to the obituary that was published online of her passing. She “touched many lives with her generosity and selfless nature,” according to the obituary, and she was “very involved in helping others throughout her life.” She was a selfless person who was generous.
A description of her character states that “people gravitated towards her charm.”
According to the sources, Metzger is facing a sentence that could range anywhere from 45 years to life in jail. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for the 9th of June.
