The hotel in Argentina where One Direction star Liam Payne died on Wednesday night phoned 911 about his destructive behavior after he had “overindulged on drugs and alcohol,” according to a transcript of the conversation.
“We have a guest who has overindulged in drugs and drink, and when he becomes cognizant, he ruins everything in the room. The caller from the Casa Sur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires stated, “We need you to send someone.”
The caller informs the operator that cops are needed “urgently” because a person is at peril.
“The guest is in a room with a balcony, and, well, we are a little afraid that he will do something life-threatening,” the caller stated, according to recordings obtained from local media by Telemundo.
The caller, who identifies as the head of reception and does not address Payne by name, claims the guest has been there for two or three days.
The emergency health agency, Sistema de Atencion Medica de Emergencia, or SAME, verified to Telemundo that Payne fell from the balcony of his third-floor room at the hotel in the Palermo district.
SAME director Alberto Crescenti told Argentine television station Todo Noticias TV that Payne was discovered dead a few minutes after the 911 call. When paramedics discovered him, he indicated there was no chance of resuscitation, and that Payne seemed to have a fracture at the base of his skull.
According to the National Prosecutor’s Office, Payne suffered 25 injuries “compatible with those produced by a fall from height” and died from “polytraumatism, internal and external hemorrhage.”
In a statement, the office claimed postmortem results revealed Payne “could have fallen in a state of semi or total unconsciousness.”
Several drugs were discovered in Payne’s room, which the prosecutor’s office claimed would establish alcohol and drug use. It also stated that everything showed that Payne was alone when he collapsed.
In a series of Snapchat posts on Wednesday, Payne discussed his experience in Argentina, where he had been playing polo, and mentioned that his girlfriend was returning to Florida.
According to a statement from the UK Foreign Office, “We are in contact with local authorities regarding reports of the death of a British man in Argentina.”
According to Reuters, firefighters were spotted taking Payne’s body from the scene early Thursday, while fans gathered.
Representatives for Payne did not reply to NBC News’ request for comment.
