A 911 call that was made following the discovery of a Florida lady and her kid, who was two years old, presented a horrible image of the scene of an accused attempted murder-suicide. The call was made after the discovery were made.
WTVJ, a local affiliate of NBC, reported on the call, which was made public by the police in Plantation, Florida, a little more than a year after the alleged crime was committed. After Sara Ashley Gama, who was 38 years old at the time, stopped responding her phone calls, her parents went to her house on March 26, 2024, and when they arrived, they discovered a bloody scene to their surprise. After walking through the house, they found their daughter dead and their young grandson, Ethan, lying facedown in the pool. Both of these pieces of evidence were discovered by them. It was discovered that their son-in-law, Jean Carlos Aponte, who was 41 years old, was unresponsive in the bedroom.
Dispatchers were informed by Gama’s father, who remained anonymous, that his daughter had been assaulted and that he believed she had passed away. It appears as though someone has sliced her over the throat. Additionally, he mentioned that he discovered a knife in the kitchen. It was initially believed by the pair that Aponte had also passed away when they discovered him. According to WTVJ, Gama’s father reportedly exclaimed to the dispatchers, “Oh my God! As also, here is Jean. They were murdered, we believe that they were murdered, yes, they were murdered, and someone was responsible for their deaths… Both have passed away, and their son has not been found.
The sound of Gama’s mother sobbing and uttering the words “We need to find the baby” can be heard in the background environment. A swinging infant chair was discovered in the living room, where the couple’s four-month-old boy was found in a safe and sound condition.
The warrant for Gama’s arrest states that he was discovered lying on the floor in the kitchen, “surrounded by a pool of blood.” A total of 28 stab wounds were found on her body, as determined by the autopsy. In addition to being stabbed four times, Ethan’s father is said to have thrown him into the pool where he was discovered. The official cause of death for Ethan was judged to be “sharp force injury together with drowning.”
The arrest warrant further disclosed that there was a conflict that took place on the morning of March 26, 2024, regarding the allegations of infidelity committed by Aponte. It was hinted that Gama threatened to divorce Aponte in conversations that were captured on home security cameras and baby monitors. Gama said, “I hope she was worth it.” Don’t go after my money, thank you. Don’t pursue anything,” she continued, adding, “We ought to have signed a prenuptial agreement.”
Accusations of infidelity were also contained in text conversations that Gama and Aponte exchanged on Facebook and WhatsApp beginning at approximately seven o’clock in the morning on March 25, 2024. In a letter that Gama sent to Aponte, he asked, “When you went to Colombia for the funeral of your father, what happened there?” Since there are a great number of escorts present there.”
In response, Aponte stated, “I am aware that I have violated [your] trust.”
After that, Gama conducted a search for “how does alimony work in Florida” and went to a website that was dedicated to a divorce attorney.
The warrant states that the beginning of the alleged violence was filmed on the home’s cameras in the room of the infant who was four months old beginning at approximately 8:20 a.m. on March 26, 2024. At that time, the police stated, “Lights are turned off in room.” Youngster overheard crying and screaming.” A voice of an adult male can be heard shouting at a later time. It took place at 9:07 in the morning, and it seemed that someone attempted to phone 911 using an iPad.
According to the warrant, Aponte made an effort to end his life by taking an excessive amount of prescription drugs. At both the scene of the incident and the hospital, he was administered naloxone for treatment. While Aponte was in the hospital, officers from the Plantation Police Department remained by his side and made a note of the fact that he used phrases such as “I’m sorry” and “I did it” while he was “in and out of sleep.”
Gama’s and Aponte’s families reported to the police that Aponte, a veteran of the United States Army, had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after his tour to Iraq and was receiving medication to treat the condition.
Two counts of first-degree murder have been brought against Aponte, and he is still being held in detention without the release of bail. His competency was the subject of his most recent court dates, which took place in March.
