Hip-Hop Mogul Diddy Moves to New Jersey Prison Known for Rehabilitation Programs

Fort Dix, New Jersey — Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, 55, has officially been transferred to the Fort Dix Federal Correctional Institution in New Jersey, where he will serve the remainder of his four-year prison sentence for prostitution-related charges, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons database.

Diddy’s Transfer and New Facility

The facility, located about 34 miles east of Philadelphia on the McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst joint military base, will now be home to the Bad Boy Records founder until his release. It remains unclear when Combs was moved from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where he had been held since his arrest in September 2023.

According to court filings, Combs’ legal team had previously requested a transfer to FCI Fort Dix, citing the prison’s low-security level and drug treatment programs as beneficial for his rehabilitation.

“FCI Fort Dix would best allow Mr. Combs to address drug abuse issues and to maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts,” wrote attorney Teny Geragos in a letter to the judge earlier this month.

Sentence and Expected Release Date

Combs has already served about 14 months of his 50-month sentence and is currently projected to be released on May 8, 2028. However, that date could move up if he earns reductions for good behavior and participation in treatment programs offered by the prison.

The Federal Correctional Institution at Fort Dix is known for housing low-risk inmates and offers several educational and rehabilitation programs, including residential drug treatment, vocational training, and family visitation initiatives — factors that Combs’ team argued were critical for his long-term recovery.

Legal Challenges and Appeal

Earlier this week, Combs’ attorneys filed a motion asking a federal appeals court to expedite review of his conviction and sentence. The rapper and producer hopes the court will reconsider aspects of his case soon enough to reduce his time behind bars if his appeal is successful.

Combs was convicted in July 2024 of transporting girlfriends and male sex workers across state lines for drug-fueled sexual encounters that allegedly took place over several years. However, he was acquitted of the more serious sex trafficking and racketeering charges, which could have carried a life sentence.

From Music Empire to Prison Life

Once one of the most influential figures in hip-hop, Sean “Diddy” Combs built an empire that included Bad Boy Records, Sean John fashion, and multiple successful business ventures. His downfall — from billionaire entrepreneur to convicted felon — has shocked the entertainment industry.

Legal experts say his transfer to a lower-security prison suggests that authorities consider him a non-violent inmate with potential for rehabilitation. Meanwhile, Combs’ supporters continue to maintain his innocence, citing flaws in the investigation and prosecution.

What’s Next for Diddy

With his appeal pending and rehabilitation programs underway, Combs’ legal and personal future remains uncertain. His lawyers continue to push for sentence reduction and review of evidentiary procedures in the trial.

If the appeals court sides with Combs, it could significantly shorten his prison time — or even lead to a new trial.
