Here’s what to know about the 2 separate Red Line shutdowns this month

A partial shutdown of the

Red Line

began Thursday night and will remain in effect through Sunday, according to the

MBTA

.

The maintenance work affects service between Kendall/MIT and JFK/UMass stations. After this weekend’s shutdown, the same work will interrupt service next weekend. The next shutdown runs from 8:30 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, July 20.

During both shutdowns, riders can

access alternatives

including fare-free commuter rail service between South Station and Braintree, and North Station and Porter, the agency said. Shuttle buses will also stop at every station

except Park Street

.

For those looking to access Park Street, the MBTA said riders can use the Winter Street concourse between Downtown Crossing and Park Street. Shuttle buses will also provide service to State for access to the Orange and Blue lines and Haymarket for the Orange and Green lines.
