Houston, TX – A strong system will bring heavy rain to South-Central and South Texas, including the Texas Gulf Coast, starting Wednesday night and lasting through Thursday, with flash flooding becoming more and more likely.
A Moderate Risk for excessive rainfall has been issued by the NOAA Weather Prediction Center for cities such as Houston, Corpus Christi, Victoria, and Laredo. The greatest precipitation is expected from Wednesday night through early Thursday morning. Rainfall accumulations of 5 to 10 inches in isolated locations are possible, inundating drainage systems and leading to hazardous flash flood situations.
There are expected to be many slow-moving thunderstorms and groups of showers by late Wednesday, particularly over already dry areas, which would add to the runoff. Interstates 10, U.S. Route 59, and a number of coastal highways could be impacted.
Residents are reminded to:
- Stay tuned to weather reports and flash flood warnings.
- Avoid low roads and flood-damaged areas.
- Never try driving through flooded roads—Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
Emergency personnel and local governments throughout affected counties are bracing for quick response, and further watches or warnings will be issued as the system continues to develop.
