Fort Worth Mother Found Dead After Welfare Check; Boyfriend Arrested in El Paso

Fort Worth, Texas — A 26-year-old mother described by loved ones as “very full of life” was found dead inside her apartment last week, prompting a domestic-related homicide investigation and the arrest of her boyfriend hundreds of miles away in El Paso.

According to Fort Worth police, officers responded on Feb. 11 to the 7300 block of Harris Parkway after the victim’s mother requested a welfare check. When officers were initially unable to locate her, they later obtained a search warrant. Upon entering the apartment, police discovered the body of Talia Sanchez, along with evidence indicating a crime had occurred.

Her boyfriend, Elijah Jordan Jacobo, 27, who lived with Sanchez and is the father of her 7-month-old son, was later arrested in El Paso in connection with her death. Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the alleged homicide.

Welfare Check Turns Into Homicide Investigation

Police say the situation escalated quickly once officers were granted access to the apartment.

“When your information is entered into a warrant for a crime such as this, someone is going to encounter you,” said Fort Worth Police Officer Cynthia Wood.

Investigators initially launched a missing persons case before homicide detectives took over. An arrest warrant was prepared, and law enforcement officials in El Paso located and took Jacobo into custody.

He now faces charges related to Sanchez’s death. The investigation remains ongoing.

Search for Baby Levi Raises Alarm

As news of Sanchez’s death spread among family members, their attention quickly turned to the couple’s infant son.

“Then it turns into, ‘Where’s Levi? Where did the baby go?’” said Teresa Lovitt, Sanchez’s aunt.

Authorities confirmed that Jacobo had taken the 7-month-old child to relatives in New Mexico before traveling to El Paso. The infant was later located safely and is now in the care of family members.

Police did not indicate that the child was harmed.

Family Speaks Out About Domestic Violence

Loved ones say Sanchez had recently embraced motherhood and was deeply devoted to her son.

“It changed her completely. It was no longer about herself anymore,” Lovitt said.

Family members revealed that Sanchez had previously contacted police months earlier regarding a domestic violence incident but ultimately chose to remain in the relationship.

“She wanted to stay with him and keep her family together for the sake of Levi. She didn’t want him to come from a broken home,” Lovitt shared.

Relatives now believe there were warning signs in the days leading up to her death. They said they had not heard from Sanchez for several days before her mother requested the welfare check. Jacobo reportedly assured the family that everything was fine after a recent argument.

Community Impact and Ongoing Support

The loss has devastated Sanchez’s family, who are now focused on raising Levi and preserving his mother’s memory. Many of his belongings remain inside the apartment as the investigation continues.

Lovitt said the family recently placed an enlarged photo of Sanchez in their home, recalling an emotional moment when the baby reached toward the picture.

“We’re going to do the best that we can to love him and let him know his mother from our eyes,” she said. “But it’s a completely different thing to know a mother and a mother’s love, and he’ll not know that.”

Family members are seeking support to help cover funeral expenses, legal costs, and baby supplies as they adjust to caring for Levi full-time.

Investigation Continues

Police have not released additional details about what led to Sanchez’s death. Authorities say the case remains active, and more information may be shared as it becomes available.

Officials are also encouraging anyone experiencing domestic violence to seek help and resources. This tragic case has once again highlighted the devastating impact of domestic violence on families and children left behind.
