Dixon, Missouri — Law enforcement arrested a Dixon School District teacher on Tuesday, Nov. 12 on 19 charges, including statutory rape and sexual contact with a juvenile, according to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department.
According to online court filings, Carissa Smith faces the following charges:
- Eight cases of second-degree statutory rape
- A single count of second-degree statutory sodomy
- Two counts of sexual misbehavior involving a student
- Three instances of sexual contact with a student
- Two counts of second-degree sexual trafficking of a kid under the age of 18.
- One count of patronizing prostitutes.
- Two counts of obstructing prosecution
According to online court records, Smith began working as a substitute teacher for Dixon Middle School in 2022 and 2023. She was then hired as a high school paraprofessional for the 2023-24 school year, followed by a long-term substitute position until her resignation in August 2024.
After interviewing several victims, PCSD claims Smith offered money to students in exchange for sex or oral sex, primarily at her home. One victim claimed they had intercourse with Smith when they were in middle school.
The probable cause statement also accuses Smith of giving kids marijuana and alcohol and allowing them to smoke and drink in her presence, as well as sending improper images of herself to a victim over Snapchat.
Smith is now being held at the Pulaski County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash or surety bond. PCSD said she may face further charges after interviewing more victims.
