Orange Park, FL — A 62-year-old Florida woman is now in custody after allegedly launching a violent knife attack against her estranged adult daughter inside the victim’s home, according to Clay County authorities.
The shocking confrontation, which deputies say unfolded in the normally quiet Oakleaf community, resulted in attempted murder charges and a dramatic rescue by the victim’s young child.
Alleged Knife Attack Reported on Reese Avenue
The incident occurred Monday afternoon at a residence on Reese Avenue in Orange Park, a small community located about 20 miles south of Jacksonville. Around 3:15 p.m., dispatchers received an emergency call from the daughter, who could be heard on the line demanding that someone leave her house, according to charging documents.
When deputies arrived, they immediately noticed blood on the sidewalk, prompting a rapid investigation into what had transpired inside the home.
Victim Says Mother Forced Her Way Inside
Authorities say the victim told deputies that her estranged biological mother, Serpil Nebiye Adams, had shown up uninvited. Adams allegedly entered through an unlocked door before attacking her daughter with a serrated utility knife.
The victim had been at home caring for her two young children when the confrontation erupted. According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, a struggle broke out almost immediately after Adams entered the home.
8-Year-Old Steps In and Saves Her Mother
In a dramatic twist that investigators described as an act of bravery, the victim’s 8-year-old daughter intervened during the assault. The child reportedly grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Adams in the upper arm, forcing the suspect to retreat.
Authorities noted a trail of blood leading from the home toward a vehicle parked nearby, with droplets found directly in line with a storm drain, further supporting the sequence of events described by the victim.
Identification and Arrest in Jacksonville
Deputies provided the victim with a driver’s license photo of Adams, which the woman confirmed was her mother. Investigators later learned that the vehicle Adams was believed to be driving belonged to another woman. After contacting the vehicle’s owner, deputies traced Adams to a residence in Jacksonville, where she had been staying with a friend.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office located Adams at that address and took her into custody without incident.
During a subsequent custodial interview, Adams invoked her Miranda rights and requested an attorney, bringing the questioning to an end.
No Injuries to the Victim or Children
Despite the violent nature of the attack, authorities confirmed that neither the victim nor her children sustained injuries during the incident. Adams, however, required medical attention for the stab wound inflicted by her granddaughter’s defensive action.
Charges, Bond, and Court Proceedings
Adams is now facing one count of attempted second-degree murder without premeditation. She is being held at the Clay County Jail on a bond of more than $500,000.
On Tuesday, Adams appeared before a judge, who issued a no-contact order should she manage to post bond. Her next scheduled court appearance is December 16.
