Florida Man Attempts to Kill Wife Twice, Claims He 'Doesn't Want Her to Be Alone' Deputies

OCALA, Fla. — A Florida man who is 93 years old was charged with trying to kill his wife twice this month.

A report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office that NBC station WESH got shows that Helmut Lockner and his wife had been married for 60 years when the incidents happened.

Lockner’s wife told police that he told her many times that he was hurting and “wanted to die.” He said that he “did not want to leave the woman alone” and tried to suffocate her with a pillow.

The police report says that two weeks later, Lockner got up from his chair in the living room, walked behind her, and tried to choke her with a rope. Deputies said she got cuts and bruises on her neck and chin from the accident.

Lockner’s wife got out of the house and called 911 from somewhere safer. Lockner is said to have told officers that he planned to kill his wife and then kill himself because he was going to die and didn’t want her to be alone.

The police report says that the person who answered the phone at 911 heard Lockner say, “You can die with me.”

Because he tried to kill two people in the first degree, he was put into the Marion County Jail.
