Florida Lieutenant Fatally Shot by Estranged Husband in Attempted Suicide Cover-Up, Say Deputies

Deputies say that a lieutenant with a Florida sheriff’s office was shot and killed by her ex-husband, who was also a former sergeant. The suspect tried to make the death look like a suicide.

Around 2 p.m. on Monday, Orange County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Eloilda “Ellie” Shea, 39, was found dead at a home on El Prado Avenue with a gunshot wound to the head. At the time, it looked like she had killed herself.

There was only one piece of information we had at the time, which was that the call seemed to be about a suicide, the sheriff’s office said in a news statement.

But as deputies looked into it, they found that her ex-husband, Anthony Shea, 49, a former sergeant with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, shot and killed her in her bedroom and “attempted to conceal his actions under the guise of a suicide,” as the arrest report said.

Shea was caught on Friday for first-degree murder with a gun. He is being held without bond in the Orange County Jail.

The story says that Anthony Shea said, “We had a bad night last night, arguing about my affair.”

His resignation from the sheriff’s office in August came while he was being investigated for claims that would have led to his firing, according to the station. WESH claimed that he quit because he was being investigated by his company for having an affair and having sex on the job.

Since October 2006, Anthony Shea has been with the company.

It was said by the sheriff’s office that Ellie Shae has two children. In 2011, she joined the company.

According to Sheriff John Mina, Ellie really cared about the office and the work we do. He also said, “I saw her as a rising star.” “This week, we all dealt with shock, grief, and guilt as we tried to make sense of Ellie’s death, which was staged to look like a suicide.” I want to thank our homicide officers for their hard work in getting justice for Ellie. They had the very hard job of investigating the murder of a coworker.

“It’s devastating to know we will never again be on the receiving end of Ellie’s kindness or warm smile,” he said. “We pray for her two girls, the rest of her family, and all of those who love her.”
