Florida Highway Patrol Searching for Driver After Fatal Hit-and-Run on Silver Star Road

Orange County, Florida – Authorities are searching for a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash late Monday night in Orange County. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) says the driver of a possibly gray or blue Chevy Malibu fled the scene after striking two individuals, including a pedestrian who later died at the hospital.

How the Crash Unfolded

According to an FHP press release, the incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Silver Star Road near Le Harve Boulevard. A 2003 Honda Accord was traveling eastbound in the center lane when a pedestrian entered the roadway from the south, attempting to cross outside of a marked crosswalk.

The pedestrian stepped into the eastbound lanes and was struck by the Honda, whose driver stopped and got out of the vehicle to assist the injured man.

Second Vehicle Strikes Both Individuals

Moments later, investigators say a second car, believed to be a gray or blue Chevy Malibu, approached the same location traveling eastbound. The Malibu struck both the pedestrian and the Honda driver, causing significant additional trauma.

Witnesses told troopers that the Malibu’s driver briefly stopped, checked on the victims, then got back into the vehicle and fled the scene. The man was described as an adult Black male wearing a black hoodie.

Vehicle Description and Damage Indicators

FHP is asking the public to be on the lookout for a Chevy Malibu matching the description provided by witnesses. According to investigators, the car is expected to have noticeable front-end damage and is missing its driver’s side mirror.

Authorities say this damage is consistent with the impact described at the scene.

Condition of the Victims

The driver of the Honda Accord sustained minor injuries after being hit. First responders transported the pedestrian to a local hospital, where medical staff later pronounced him dead.

Troopers have not released the victim’s identity pending family notification.

FHP Continues Active Search

The Florida Highway Patrol is urging anyone with information about the vehicle or the driver to contact them immediately. Hit-and-run crashes remain a significant concern across the state, and investigators emphasize that leaving the scene of a serious collision is a felony offense.

Residents in the Silver Star Road and Le Harve Boulevard area are encouraged to report any recently damaged vehicles or suspicious activity that may assist in identifying the Malibu driver.
