Flash Flood Threat Looms as Heavy Rain Persists Across Northern Florida and South Georgia

Tallahassee, FL – A flood watch has been issued by the National Weather Service in Tallahassee for parts of northern Florida and south Georgia. This is because scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to bring heavy rain through Wednesday night and into Thursday. This rainy weather, caused by a surface trough that goes from the eastern Florida Big Bend to south-central Georgia, has made flash floods more likely, especially near I-75 and the northeast Florida Big Bend.

Three to five inches of rain are expected to fall in the flood watch area, and some high-resolution models show that it could rain up to six to ten inches. Heavy rain may also fall in places that aren’t under the flood watch, but the watch is for the most at-risk areas in northern Jefferson and Madison counties.
