Firefighters Rescue Woman Found in L.A. River in Boyle Heights

On Sunday morning, firefighters rescued a woman who had been discovered resting in the Boyle Heights section of the Los Angeles River.

According to a news release from the Los Angeles Fire Department, they were called to the water around the 2700 block of E. Washington Avenue at around 9:30 p.m. after discovering that the woman was lying on her back in about 3–4 inches of static water.

When crews arrived and located the woman, they had to lower a rescuer from the LAFD Air Ops chopper because of her location and the restricted access to the area.

Firefighters claimed the woman, who they estimate is around 55 years old, could move her extremities when they discovered her, but they were unable to assess her condition.

She was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition after they successfully lifted her out of the water. Her identity is unknown.

It’s unknown how the woman ended herself in the river, and no further details were given.
