The suspect, who is 32 years old and lives in Pennsylvania, was arrested on charges that he made death threats against President Trump, Elon Musk, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers. Attorney General Eric Holder said that Shawn Monper was arrested and charged with four counts of making threats against federal officials and federal law enforcement agents.
An emergency disclosure from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania said that on April 8, 2025, threats made to YouTube by a user named “Mr. Satan” were sent to the FBI’s National Threat Operations Section. Between January 15, 2025, and April 5, 2025, the user is said to have made several threats against government officials.
Investigators found that “Mr. Satan” was using an IP address that pointed to Monper’s house in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Federal officials said they were able to prove that Monper got a gun permit soon after Trump was sworn in as president for the second time in January 2025.
For instance, he is said to have written on February 17, 2025:
“No, we just need to start killing people… Trump, Elon, all the people Trump put in charge of agencies, and anyone else who gets in our way.” Remember that we are the majority and that MAGA is the minority in this country. In February, Monper is also said to have said that he had “bought several guns and been stocking up on ammo since Trump took office.”
The following month, the threats are said to have continued. For example, Monper is said to have written, “I’m going to kill him myself,” on a video of Trump’s live speech to Congress.
Monper is also accused of writing in March, “I’m going to do a mass shooting eventually,” “ICE agents are terrorists, we need to start killing them,” and “I’ve been buying a gun, body armor, and ammunition every month since the election.”
Monper is said to have written on April 1, 2025, “If I see an armed ICE agent, I will think it is a domestic terrorist and an active shooter, and I will shoot them.”
On April 9, 2025, FBI officials arrested Monper with the help of officers from the Butler Township Police Department. He was told to be held overnight until his preliminary hearing the next day, which is now set for the afternoon of April 14.
