According to police reports, last week the FBI worked with Nantucket Police to investigate four fake bomb threats that occurred on the island over three nights.
There was an improvised explosive device at 16 Main St., where a Ralph Lauren store is located, according to all four of the fake bomb threats.
According to officials, Nantucket officials and the Massachusetts Bomb Squad put up a perimeter and examined the area after each incident, but they were unable to locate any explosive devices or signs of them.
The first bomb threat was reported to Nantucket Police at 7:11 p.m. on Tuesday. It involved an IED in a black sports utility vehicle.
An IED in a box was the subject of a second bomb threat that was reported to police at 7:21 p.m. on Friday. Additionally, police were called to report that the individual who reported the threat was carrying a pistol. Nantucket Police and the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad searched the area and set up another perimeter, but they found no device.
Officials got another call about a device at the Ralph Lauren building at 11:13 p.m. on Friday. According to the Nantucket Current, the Ralph Lauren store was previously closed in March 2024 after a fictitious bomb threat.
According to a press release that the Boston Herald was able to get, someone informed authorities on Saturday that they planned to plant an improvised explosive device (IED) at 16 Main Street.According to the Current, the Massachusetts Bomb Squad had already arrived on the island for a Boston Pops performance and had left an hour after the call.
The FBI, Massachusetts State Police, and the Nantucket Police Detective Unit are still investigating the fake bomb reports.
