Following his father’s advice to find work, the video game enthusiast who shot his parents in Polk County, Florida, has entered a guilty plea.
Joseph David Voigt, who is 24 years old, gave his confession that he had shot and killed his father, Marvin Voigt, who was 63 years old, and injured his mother, who was 58 years old. According to the records of the court, Joseph Voigt, who was initially charged with murder in the first degree and attempted murder, offered a guilty plea on Monday to the counts of murder in the second degree.
If the defendant is found guilty, he will be sentenced to anywhere from 26 years to life in prison, according to the records. No date has been decided upon for the sentencing process.
Deputies stated in a press release that their counterparts in the authorities of the city of Bartow arrived at the residence of Voigt on December 7th. The deceased subject was found dead in the driveway, with what appeared to be gunshot wounds, as Law & Crime had previously reported. It was discovered that his wife had also been hurt and was inside the house. She reported to the authorities that their son had just shot them and then left. She got through the shooting unscathed.
The Bartow police department reached out to their counterparts at the sheriff’s office for assistance after the suspect allegedly fled the scene of the crime. In Polk County and the surrounding area, the authorities issued a “be on the lookout” call for the public. In the end, police enforcement was able to locate the vehicle that was associated with the suspect Voigt in Orlando, specifically on International Drive. He was taken into custody after a traffic stop by the local police. He was initially taken into custody in the Orange County Jail, and then he was subsequently transported to Polk County.
As a result of the conversation between PCSO deputies and Voigt, the latter acknowledged to shooting both his mother and father, as stated in the written statement. “He stated that his father was dissatisfied with him since he decided to spend the majority of his time playing video games and “riding his a—” rather than working and making anything of himself. In his criminal history, Joseph Voigt has been arrested for a variety of offences, including violence and discharging a weapon in a house.
