Fact brief: Did Tarrant County commissioners reduce the number of Nov. 4 polling locations?

Yes.

On August 19, Tarrant County commissioners decided to eliminate over 100 polling places on Election Day and fewer early voting venues for the election scheduled for November 4.

There will be 216 polling on election day. The county opened 331 in 2023.

There are 33 early voting locations in Tarrant County where voters can cast their ballots. That figure is lower than the 44 in 2023. 20–31 October is early voting.

Commissioners were informed by Elections Administrator Clinton Ludwig that the first set of changes was intended to save roughly $1 million.

A 2023 rule that required counties to increase the number of polling places was rolled back by a new Texas law that lowered the minimum number of places to vote on Election Day.

In addition to 17 proposed constitutional amendments, there will be a special election in November to replace the vacancy in state Senate District 9, which covers a large portion of Tarrant County.
