Daughters of Worcester woman detained by ICE reported missing

According to media reports and a national group, two adolescent daughters of a Worcester woman who was detained by federal immigration officials earlier this year have gone missing, with one of them returning to Brazil.

In May, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested Brazilian Rosane Ferreira De Oliveira on Eureka Street in Worcester, and she is currently in federal jail. Before neighbors encircled ICE agents, she was allegedly enticed outside her house by agents using her grandchild as bait.

At the time of her arrest, two of her daughters were present: 17-year-old Nayara Ferreira De Moura, who had been reported missing by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and an adult daughter. The same group also reported her sister, Karoline Ferreira De Moura, 13, missing.

Two sisters have been reported missing from Worcester, according to Worcester police. A spokesman claimed that a 13-year-old and a 17-year-old both left the Department of Children and Families’ custody on July 20 and late May, respectively. Karoline was also reported missing on July 20 by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

A request for comment Thursday night was not answered by DCF.

Attorney Andrew Lattrulot told MassLive that Karoline is still missing, while Nayara is in Brazil with an older sister.

Charges dropped against mother, teen daughter

It looks like Nayara is the same teenage girl that was taken into custody by Worcester police after her mother was taken into custody. After the department disclosed body camera footage of the event, officials asked that charges against the youngster be dismissed in light of the entire situation.

Ferreira De Oliveira was also exonerated of a municipal assault and battery conviction with a dangerous weapon that ICE had previously highlighted. According to court documents, she was charged with striking one of her daughters with a phone charger cable. The complaining witness in this case does not want to continue, according to a prosecutor’s letter.

The woman’s defense lawyers requested permission to stay close to Nayara, the complaining witness, in order to change the bail terms prior to the case being dismissed. The motion was granted by the judge.

Sarah Amorin, Nayara’s attorney, argued that Ferreira de Oliveira is the only parent available to her. Contact between a 17-year-old and their custodial parent is justified for a variety of reasons, including medical ones.

Regarding the missing daughters, Amorin chose not to speak.

Chaotic ICE arrest in May involved local politician

Residents of Worcester, including City Councilor Etel Haxhiaj, reportedly formed a human ring around the mother and children after Ferreira de Oliveira was arrested in May. According to body camera footage, the girls attempted to block the agents’ departure by standing in front of the ICE van carrying their mother.

Ferreira de Oliveira was described as a violent criminal illegal alien by an ICE official upon her detention, citing the now-dropped charges in Worcester District Court.

The most serious accusation against them was dismissed last week, but another Worcester resident was also arrested in addition to the adolescent daughter.

Assault charges are brought against Haxhiaj weeks after the altercation. She entered a not guilty plea to a misdemeanor charge of interfering with a police officer and assault and violence on a police officer.Following the arrests, thousands of people gathered for many protests throughout the city, and dozens of Worcester residents attended a meeting where they criticized the police and city council.
