The father, who was 24 years old and from Georgia, was taken into custody for allegedly leaving his three children, who were 10 years old, 6 years old, and 1 year old, unsupervised at a McDonald’s fast food restaurant for somewhat less than two hours as he walked to a job interview.
A charge of deprivation of a juvenile was brought against Chris Louis, who was put into jail the previous weekly.
The arrest of Louis, on the other hand, has sparked controversy. Some people believe that there was no justification for possibly putting his children in danger, while others, including at least one former NFL star, have taken the side of the father of three, who appears to be doing the best he could to provide for his family despite the challenging circumstances he was in.
On March 22, officials were dispatched to the McDonald’s located in the 2900 block of Washington Road in Augusta, as stated in a report that was published by The Augusta Press. The grounds of the restaurant include an indoor playground that is available for children to use.
According to the complaint, about 4:30 p.m., a witness saw Louis leave his children alone and walk away from the institution. The witness then called the authorities to report what they saw. The allegations state that he left the children, came back, and then left once again.
It was stated that first responders promptly located the children, who were found to be unharmed upon their arrival at the scene. Louis returned to the McDonald’s at approximately 6:18 p.m., at which point they waited for him to return.
During the course of the investigation, Louis reportedly disclosed to the authorities that he and his children had walked from their adjacent flat to the restaurant in order to get to the upcoming job interview. Louis allegedly left his children alone in the playground area and went to the interview since he did not have a car and did not want to force his children to go back home so that he could attend the interview.
After the mother of the children was contacted to pick up the children, Louis was taken into jail and lodged into the Richmond County Jail for further investigation. According to records found online, he has been released since then.
The news of Louis’ arrest swiftly spread, and it ultimately reached Antonio Brown, a former superstar wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Brown made the decision to establish a GoFundMe page in order to raise money for Louis through the website.
“The story took me by complete surprise. “A father who is merely looking for a means to generate income for his family,” Brown said on the page that was set up to raise money. There are some people who do not have the financial means to babysit, etc., and I am aware that he should not just abandon his children. To assist this individual, a GoFundMe campaign has been established. Following my conversation with GoFundMe, I can confirm that the cash will be transferred to Chris and his family. I have not yet had a conversation with Chris, but I am hoping to do so very soon.
The page, which is named “Pursuit of Happiness,” had raised more than $46,000 as of Wednesday afternoon. Donations had been received from more than 1,400 individuals, including a donation of $1,000 from Brown.
