Bread Sold at Walmart and Kroger Recalled Over Undeclared Hazelnuts – 12 States Affected

A popular brand of bread sold at Walmart and Kroger is being voluntarily recalled due to the presence of undeclared hazelnuts, according to a notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The recall affects certain batches of Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style 1/2 Loaf made by Hartford Bakery Inc.

The issue was discovered after 883 loaves were found to contain hazelnuts without clearly stating so on the packaging. Although the label says the bread “May Contain Tree Nuts,” it does not explicitly warn consumers that it “Contains Hazelnuts,” which can pose serious health risks to those with nut allergies.
