Vermont’s Montpelier – From Wednesday night through Thursday morning, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for a significant portion of the center, northeast, and northwest regions of Vermont. This is due to the fact that it is anticipated that mixed precipitation may cause disruptions to travel and daily life. The weather advisory, which will be in force from 8 p.m. on Wednesday until 11 a.m. on Thursday, warns of the possibility of snow accumulations of up to two inches, sleet accumulations of up to a tenth of an inch, and winds of up to 25 to 35 miles per hour.
The National Weather Service reports that the mixed precipitation will start out as snow and then change into sleet and freezing rain overnight. This could potentially create hazardous travel conditions for those who are commuting on Thursday morning. Residents are cautioned to use extreme caution when traveling, particularly on roads that are icy, and they should also be prepared for the possibility of isolated power outages as a result of the formation of ice.
Through Vermont’s New England 511 program, one is able to keep track on the current state of the roads. Government officials are warning the general public to reduce their speed, keep a safe distance on the roads, and be informed about any changes that may occur to the weather alerts as the storm continues to sweep across the area.
