Prosecutors claimed that a Lyft driver picked up a client in Boston and drove her to Somerville, where she was assaulted throughout the weekend.
Marian Ryan, the district attorney for Middlesex, revealed that Luis Carlos Ramos Teixeira, 27, was charged in Somerville District Court on Monday with rape and indecent assault and battery on a person over fourteen. The man, who lives in Brockton, was taken into custody on Sunday after obtaining a warrant.
According to the DA, a woman reported the alleged assault at the hospital.
Teixeira was later identified by the police as the Lyft driver. It was said that he had taken the woman from Boston to her Somerville home. Prosecutors claimed that there, he entered the rear seat and sexually attacked her.
On Monday evening, Teixeira’s attorney information was not immediately accessible.
A representative for Lyft told Boston.com that the driver has been permanently barred from the company’s platform.
According to a Lyft representative, the behavior depicted is abhorrent and has no place in the Lyft community or society. In addition to permanently banning the driver from the Lyft platform and being available to help law authorities in their investigation, we have been in contact with the rider to offer support.
Prosecutors say Teixeira was detained without bail on Monday. A hearing on his dangerousness is set for this Friday.
