Bay Area Man Arrested for Burglary and Kidnapping Spree

Bay Area Man Arrested for Burglary and Kidnapping Spree. According to authorities, a 48-year-old guy from the North Bay with a lengthy criminal past was taken into custody on Saturday on suspicion of committing a number of strange crimes, including violent burglary, assault, and attempting to kidnap a resident of a nursing home.

According to a Facebook post from the San Rafael Police Department, David Jonathan Margoliash, a resident of San Rafael, is charged with attempting to break into a home on Ross Street on Saturday at approximately 1:12 a.m.

According to authorities, Margoliash entered the residence through the back door when the occupants were asleep. One homeowner, who is pregnant, reported that she was awakened by noises and discovered Margoliash in the living room.

He allegedly struck the woman in the head with a flashlight when she screamed upon spotting Margoliash. According to the authorities, her husband then woke up and got into a fight with Margoliash while attempting to evict him from the residence.

Margoliash allegedly bit the husband’s hand during the altercation, but he was eventually ejected from the house after the husband pushed him down the patio stairs to the sidewalk. Then, according to the authorities, Margoliash fled the scene.

Due of their injuries, the husband and wife were brought to a nearby hospital. Margoliash was not found despite numerous law enforcement agencies searching the area.

Margoliash allegedly attempted to take an elderly patient from a nursing care facility in the 1600 block of Fifth Avenue a few hours later, according to police, while pretending to be a transport service employee tasked with transporting the patient to Santa Rosa. When the facility staff realized Margoliash was lying, they asked him for his credentials and, at 5:18 a.m., phoned the police.

In the same location, Margolisash was taken into custody. According to authorities, Margoliash made “several incriminating statements about his actions in both cases” after being placed under arrest. On suspicion of three felonies—burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, and attempted kidnapping—he is being detained at the Marin County Jail without being granted bail.

Margoliash, who pleaded guilty to attacking someone at the Islamic Center of North Marin in Novato earlier this year, is currently awaiting punishment and has a history of violent offenses, according to police. On March 11, the first day of Ramadan, Margoliash pepper-sprayed and attacked a guy at the center who had attempted to take his backpack, according to KTVU.

Anyone with information regarding the attempted kidnapping and burglary are requested to call the San Rafael Police Department at 415-485-3000.
