SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department says that two big fights at a bar in Salt Lake City, where up to 40 people were involved, led to the arrest of six people and hurt two police officers.
Police said that cops from all over the city responded to the fight, and the investigation began just before 11:30 p.m. on November 1. There were reports that a person had beaten up three people and then driven off in a car.
Police were first called to a bar near 1700 South Main Street because of a fight that was going on. Police tried to stop the fight, but while they were dealing with the first one, SLCPD said another fight started outside the bar at 12:07 a.m. on November 2.
After the police were almost done with their first investigation into the fight, two groups started fighting with each other.
“About 30 to 40 people started fighting with each other and police,” the SLCPD said in a news release on Saturday.
Police said they used oleoresin capsicum spray, also known as pepper spray, to “contain the incident and restore public safety.” After the accident, neither of the cops who were hurt was taken to the hospital.
“Even after police separated the groups, there were still a number of small fights,” police said.
The six people who were arrested because of the fighting were charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and interfering with an officer who was arresting someone.
The following people were arrested:
Carnation Foni, 23
Chelzie Atoa, 32
Telphi Asiata, 32
Anastasia Asiata, 36
Edwina Atoa, 36
Lagi Fuiava, 38
Police said they don’t yet know what caused the two fights.
The SLCPD also said that the preliminary information they gave out on Saturday could change as the probe goes on. At this point, there is no more details.
