Authorities say the Miami-Dade bus driver who shot and murdered two passengers early on Sunday morning is still at large.
According to Miami Gardens police, the gunshot occurred aboard a Route 77 bus close to 183rd Street and Northwest Seventh Avenue shortly before three in the morning.
Investigators said that before gunshots broke out, the driver and two male passengers got into a verbal altercation. After being brought to the hospital, both guys passed away.
Why the driver was armed and what caused the argument are yet unknown.
The Department of Transportation and Public Works states that it is totally forbidden for Transit employees to carry firearms while on duty in Miami-Dade County.
Diana Delgado, a Miami Gardens police spokeswoman, attempted to comfort the public despite the violent occurrence. “At this time, we don’t have the full information to say that our community or any passengers need to be frightened of taking a bus,” she stated.
In addition to trying to stop similar catastrophes, the Transport Workers Union Local 291, which represents transport workers, stated that it is committed to helping its members and the community.
In a brief interview with CBS News Miami, the driver’s brother said that their family is going through a tough moment.
Police have not yet revealed the driver’s identify or stated if charges would be brought against him.
The facts surrounding the fatal gunshot are still being looked into by authorities.
