A series of product recalls involving items sold on Amazon and through third-party sellers have been issued across the United States after the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) identified serious safety hazards, including risks of fatal injury, fire, and poisoning. The recalls have drawn attention to ongoing concerns about product safety oversight in online marketplaces.
Child Safety Gate Poses Entrapment Hazard
Approximately 1,400 units of LIVACTI Retractable Safety Gates were recalled after the CPSC found that they violated federal child safety gate standards. The gap between the gate and the floor was large enough for a child’s torso to fit through, posing a risk of entrapment and potentially fatal injury. These gates were sold on Amazon between December 2024 and April 2025. Consumers are advised to destroy the product and submit proof of disposal to receive a full refund from importers Qeyan and Yanyanny.
Electric Scooters Recalled Due to Fall Risk
Apollo City 2024 electric scooters were recalled following ten reports of cracking welds, including four instances that led to falls and one resulting injury. Roughly 800 scooters are affected. The CPSC reported that the scooter’s weld line can crack, causing the stem to break and increasing the risk of falls. Owners are instructed to contact Apollo to receive a free replacement stem.
Fire Hazards From E-Bike Battery Overheating
FENGQS F7 Pro electric bikes, sold on Amazon from May to December 2024, were pulled from shelves after 13 reports of battery overheating incidents, including two fires that caused $4,000 in property damage. About 100 units were affected. The CPSC warned that the lithium-ion battery can ignite, creating a risk of fire and burns. Consumers will be issued full refunds upon proof of safe battery disposal through hazardous waste programs.
Turpentine Bottles Violate Child Safety Standards
Creekwood Naturals’ 100% Pure Gum Spirits of Turpentine bottles were recalled due to noncompliance with child-resistant packaging requirements. Around 9,000 bottles, sold via Amazon, Etsy, eBay, and Creekwood Naturals from June 2023 to May 2025, were affected. Although no injuries were reported, the CPSC warned of potential poisoning risks. Buyers can request a free child-resistant cap and are urged to keep the product out of children’s reach.
Additional Recalled Items Raise Concerns
Other recent recalls include LED gloves with exposed button batteries, electric bug zappers, and garden hoses, all removed from the market after being linked to hazards such as electric shock, choking, and impact injuries. The CPSC emphasized the importance of removing such products from use immediately.
What Consumers Should Do
Buyers of recalled products are strongly encouraged to stop using them right away and follow instructions for obtaining refunds, replacements, or corrective parts. Consumers can check the official CPSC recall database or Amazon’s recall page for the latest information. The CPSC also urges individuals to report any problems encountered during the recall process directly through its website.
