Adoptive Son from Ukraine Charged in Grisly Slaying of Parents in Florida Home

North Port, FL – A Florida man is standing trial for murder more than two years after his adoptive parents were found dead in a violent scene at their home in North Port, Florida in 2023. The case has drawn national attention due to the brutal nature of the killings and the tragic family background involved.

Adoptive Parents Found Slain

Robbie James Tower, 49, and his wife, Jennifer Christine Tower, 51, were discovered dead by officers responding to their home just before midnight on August 31, 2023, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.

Police were alerted after a neighbor called 911, reporting that a woman had come to her door screaming, “I need help.” The neighbor did not see the woman but observed a large amount of blood on the steps leading to the home.

Upon arrival, officers encountered Dima Jones Tower, 24, the couple’s adoptive son, standing outside with blood on him. He fled the scene, prompting a police chase before being apprehended.

Inside the residence, investigators described a grisly scene: the couple was found lying head-to-head and face down in the living room. Robbie had a puncture wound on his back, while Jennifer was drenched in blood. Blood was also found throughout the house, including on the living room couches, bed, kitchen, a rag, and the inside of the front door, according to the affidavit.

Background of the Family

The Towers adopted Dima from Ukraine in 2016 when he was 14 years old. Online records and social media profiles show family photos reflecting a happy household, including a “Pray for Ukraine” poster posted by Jennifer in March 2022 following Russia’s invasion.

Court records indicate that Dima had a prior run-in with the law. In 2020, he faced charges related to domestic violence, including allegedly throwing a victim across a kitchen, causing injuries such as a bleeding forehead and lacerations to the back. Those charges were later declined by a judge.

Trial and Legal Proceedings

Dima Tower has pleaded not guilty to the murder charges. His defense team has indicated that they may ask the jury to convict him of manslaughter, a lesser offense, according to the Herald-Tribune. As of now, no clear motive for the killings has been established.

Remembering Robbie and Jennifer

Obituaries and community tributes describe the Towers as devoted members of their community. Jennifer enjoyed bird watching, while Robbie was remembered for his sense of humor and warmth. Friends and neighbors continue to mourn the couple’s loss and highlight their legacy of kindness.
