Tacoma, Washington — Tacoma is gearing up for one of the Pacific Northwest’s premier Fourth of July celebrations as Tacoma Summer Blast returns to the Ruston Way Waterfront for America’s 250th Anniversary. The free festival offers a full day of live music, family activities, food vendors, waterfront entertainment, and a spectacular fireworks display over Puget Sound.

The festivities begin at 12:00 p.m. and continue throughout the day.

Fireworks Start Time

The official fireworks display begins once it gets dark, at approximately 10:00 p.m.

The fireworks are launched from a barge about 3,000 feet offshore from Cummings Park, creating excellent viewing opportunities along nearly the entire Ruston Way Waterfront. The professionally choreographed display lasts about 20 minutes.

The northern end of the waterfront provides excellent elevated views of the fireworks and easy access to nearby festival activities.

Dune Peninsula

One of the official Summer Blast venues, Dune Peninsula hosts live entertainment and offers some of the best waterfront viewing locations for the fireworks.

Cummings Park

Located closest to the fireworks launch area, Cummings Park offers front-row views of the show, including an ADA-designated viewing area on the horseshoe pier.

Ruston Way Waterfront

The entire waterfront—from Dune Peninsula in the north to Jack Hyde Park in the south—offers excellent public viewing areas for the fireworks over Puget Sound.

Parking and Traffic

Because Tacoma Summer Blast attracts tens of thousands of visitors, organizers strongly recommend planning ahead.

Visitors should:

  • Arrive before 3:00–4:00 p.m.
  • Expect significant traffic delays on July 3 and July 4
  • Use designated event parking where available
  • Consider rideshare, biking, or public transit
  • Be prepared for temporary road closures and pedestrian detours along Ruston Way
