Sacramento, California — Sacramento is gearing up for another busy Independence Day celebration, but 2026 brings a different format than many residents may remember.
With the Athletics temporarily playing at Sutter Health Park, the traditional Fourth on the Field festival is not returning this year. Instead, the area’s headline Fourth of July event will be the Athletics’ Independence Day game against the Miami Marlins, followed by one of Northern California’s biggest postgame fireworks displays.
Sacramento July 4 Schedule
The official schedule begins with Major League Baseball as the Athletics host the Miami Marlins at Sutter Health Park.
Event Schedule
- 6:40 p.m. – Athletics vs. Miami Marlins
- After the game (approximately 9:30–10:00 p.m.) – Patriotic fireworks show
The fireworks will launch immediately after the final out, making this the centerpiece of Sacramento’s Independence Day celebration.
Fireworks Start Time
While there is no fixed fireworks time because the display depends on the length of the baseball game, spectators can generally expect the show to begin around 9:30 to 10:00 p.m.
The fireworks will be launched from Sutter Health Park, creating excellent views throughout West Sacramento and across the river into downtown Sacramento.
Best Places to Watch the Fireworks
Sutter Health Park
Nothing beats watching the fireworks from inside the stadium after the Athletics game. Fans receive the closest views and enjoy the complete game-day atmosphere.
Tower Bridge
The Tower Bridge area offers beautiful views of both the Sacramento skyline and the fireworks over the river. It remains one of the city’s favorite photography spots.
Old Sacramento Waterfront
The historic waterfront provides another outstanding location for watching the fireworks while enjoying restaurants, shopping, and riverfront activities before the show.
Sacramento River Walk
Both sides of the Sacramento River provide excellent viewing opportunities for people who do not have game tickets.
Parking and Transportation
Parking is available at Sutter Health Park, and the venue recommends purchasing parking before arriving when possible. Thousands of baseball fans are expected, so arriving well before first pitch is highly recommended.
Visitors should also expect:
- Heavy traffic after the fireworks
- Long exit times from stadium parking lots
- Increased congestion around Tower Bridge and Old Sacramento

Many previous attendees recommend parking a little farther away and walking to avoid the longest postgame traffic delays.
Why Sacramento Stands Out in 2026
Sacramento’s Independence Day celebration looks different this year because of Major League Baseball. Instead of a standalone community fireworks festival, the city’s largest fireworks display is now tied to an Athletics home game, giving fans the chance to enjoy baseball and fireworks in one evening.
With America’s 250th anniversary bringing additional patriotic celebrations throughout California, Sacramento’s riverfront and Sutter Health Park are expected to draw large holiday crowds.
Whether you’re cheering on the Athletics inside Sutter Health Park, strolling through Old Sacramento Waterfront, or finding a riverside spot near Tower Bridge, Sacramento offers one of Northern California’s most memorable Independence Day fireworks experiences.
