Richmond, Virginia — Richmond is getting ready for a major July 4, 2026 celebration as the Richmond Flying Squirrels host the first Star-Spangled Squirrels Fest at CarMax Park. The team says the event will feature the largest fireworks show in Richmond, along with live music, on-field access, and family-friendly holiday fun.
Richmond July 4 schedule
The official Flying Squirrels announcement says the evening begins at 5:30 p.m. at CarMax Park. No BS! Brass Band is scheduled from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by Grateful Shred from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. The night closes with fireworks starting at 9:00 p.m.
The Virginia tourism guide also lists Star-Spangled Squirrels Fest at CarMax Park for July 4, 2026, confirming that it is one of the state’s highlighted Central Virginia Independence Day events.
Best places to watch the fireworks
The most direct place to watch is inside CarMax Park, where the event includes bowl seating and on-field options. The Flying Squirrels say fans can buy general admission or on-field tickets, and both ticket types include field access from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. After 8:30 p.m., only guests with an on-field wristband can remain on the field for fireworks viewing.
If you want another Richmond-style fireworks night, Venture Richmond also highlights 4th of July Firework Viewing from the James from 6:00 to 11:30 p.m. on the James River, plus Fireworks on the Rooftop at Byrdhouse Bar from 4:00 p.m. to midnight. Those are good backup options if you want a river or rooftop view instead of the ballpark crowd.

Parking and transit
Parking at CarMax Park is $10 per car. The team’s parking page says the Red Lot is general parking and ride-share pickup/drop-off, the Yellow Lot is general parking, the Black & Gold Lot is for ADA parking, and the Blue Lot is reserved for VIP, Legacy Club, and annual suite holders. Bike racks are also available, and the team recommends the GRTC Pulse if you do not want to deal with traffic.
The Flying Squirrels also posted separate parking and arrival guidance for the July 4 event, which is a good sign that the team expects a large crowd.
Why Richmond stands out in 2026
Richmond’s 2026 July 4 celebration is especially notable because it is being framed as the city’s biggest fireworks night in years. The Virginia guide says the Flying Squirrels’ celebration will feature the largest fireworks show in Richmond, and Visit Richmond’s summer guide shows CarMax Park as one of the city’s major new summer attractions.
That gives Richmond a strong mix of baseball, live music, and fireworks all in one place. If you want a classic city holiday night, CarMax Park is the headline option for July 4, while the James River and rooftop events give the city extra variety.
