Dallas Teen Charged After Fatal Shooting of 48-Year-Old Man, Police Say

Dallas, Texas: A 19-year-old man has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting and killing a 48-year-old man late Friday night, according to the Dallas Police Department.

Officers were dispatched around midnight Saturday to the 120 block of Bridges Street, where they discovered a man who had been shot. The victim, identified as Michael Elledge, 48, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the suspect, Isaac Amaya, 19, was taken into custody and later charged with murder in connection with the incident.

Timeline of Events

According to law enforcement officials and an arrest warrant affidavit, the events leading up to the fatal shooting began earlier Friday evening.

Multiple 911 calls were reportedly made regarding a disturbance at a home in the 200 block of Freddie Street. Callers told dispatchers that a woman was “afraid for her life” and claimed that Amaya — described as her boyfriend — was beating on doors and windows in an attempt to get inside.

When officers initially responded to the disturbance, Amaya allegedly jumped a fence and hid from police, according to the affidavit.

Shooting Incident

Several hours after the initial disturbance, a witness reportedly observed Amaya hiding behind a vehicle and told him to leave the area.

Shortly after midnight, the same witness heard what was described as a “commotion” and saw Amaya confronting Elledge, according to the affidavit.

The witness told investigators they saw Amaya shoot Elledge during the confrontation.

Officers later arrived at the scene on Bridges Street, where Elledge was found with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the location.
