by Deer Park, New York — Snow removal crews on Long Island made a grim discovery Monday afternoon when they found a man’s body buried beneath snow outside a housing complex following a powerful winter storm.
According to the Suffolk County Police Department, workers were clearing a walkway near a residential complex on Parkcenter Drive around 3:45 p.m. when they located the body under accumulated snow.
Police responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead.
Detectives believe the death appears to be non-criminal, though the investigation remains ongoing.
Identity Withheld Pending Notification
Authorities have not released the man’s name, stating that his identity is being withheld until next of kin are notified.
Officials also said it remains unclear whether the man was experiencing homelessness or why he was outside during the severe winter conditions.
The Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.

The discovery came after parts of Suffolk County were hit with record-breaking snowfall during Winter Storm Hernando.
The town of Babylon, which includes Deer Park, recorded 24 inches of snow as of 1 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
The storm blanketed much of Long Island under two feet of snow, complicating travel and snow removal efforts.
No Blizzard-Related Deaths Reported in NYC
In nearby New York City, officials said they were not aware of any storm-related fatalities as of early Monday afternoon.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani addressed reporters at a press conference in Brooklyn, stating:
“We are not aware of any deaths related to this blizzard on our city streets or in public areas.”
City leadership had previously faced criticism following an earlier winter cold snap, during which multiple individuals died outdoors amid freezing temperatures.
