Tipp City, Ohio — Newly released 911 dispatch logs are shedding light on the chaotic early moments after a beloved teacher and mother was shot and killed inside her home while her children slept nearby.
Authorities say officers responded in the early morning hours of Feb. 16 to reports of a possible burglary at the residence of Ashley and Caleb Flynn in Tipp City.
According to dispatch records, the caller — identified as Ashley’s husband — reported that someone had broken into the home and that she had been shot.
“Someone broke into the reporting person’s house… Garage door is open. There was apparently a female shot in the head. Is not responding currently.”
Emergency responders were immediately dispatched. At one point, a dispatcher asked whether paramedics could safely enter the scene.
“Squad is en route… Are they good to respond in?”
“Yes, one person only,” a first responder replied.
Children Were Inside the Home During Shooting
Investigators confirmed that only Ashley Flynn, her husband Caleb, and their two young daughters were inside the home at the time of the break-in.
The dispatch log indicates that the caller informed authorities there were children present.
“RP and juvenile daughter are locked in a bedroom.”
“Just a correction — the juveniles are going to be in their own rooms asleep currently.”
Police later emphasized that they believe this was an isolated incident targeting the specific residence and that there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public.
Police Deny Reports of Arrest or Confession
In the aftermath of the tragedy, rumors circulated suggesting a suspect had been taken into custody and confessed. However, the Tipp City Police Department firmly rejected those claims.
Chief Greg Adkins stated:
“This information is false and was never released by the Tipp City Police Department, the City of Tipp City or any collaborating law enforcement partners.”
He added that authorities will not “try this case in the media” and that the matter will be resolved through the judicial process.
As of Thursday afternoon, no suspects had been publicly identified, and autopsy results remain pending.
The investigation is being supported by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
Community Remembers Beloved Teacher and Church Member
Ashley Flynn was described by her school district as someone known for her “beautiful smile, warmth, kindness and the positive impact she had on so many.”
Her church community at Christian Life Center also mourned her loss.
“Ashley Flynn is with Jesus. Please pray for her husband and two daughters and extended family left behind… We need Jesus and His grace in the ‘What now?’”
Her husband, Caleb Flynn, previously appeared on American Idol, where he once spoke publicly about his love for his wife.
“I absolutely love the Lord. I love my wife more than anything… I love her.”
Investigation Ongoing as Community Seeks Answers
Authorities continue working to determine who was responsible and what led to the deadly break-in. Officials are urging anyone with relevant information or surveillance footage to contact investigators.
Police say the investigation will continue until answers are provided to both the family and the community.
As Tipp City grieves the loss of a mother, teacher and faith leader, the case remains active, with many in the community waiting for clarity and justice.
