Detroit, Michigan — Authorities are investigating a disturbing crime scene after three adult men were found dead in the basement of a home on the city’s southwest side.
Officers with the Detroit Police Department made the discovery Wednesday afternoon while responding to an unrelated missing person’s case near Fort Street.
Man Approaches Officers With Alarming Claim
According to local reports, officers were approached just before 1 p.m. on Feb. 18 by a man who ran up to them claiming he had been assaulted inside a home on Edsel Street.
The man also reportedly told officers that there were bodies inside the residence.
Police then went to the home to investigate the claim.
Bodies Discovered in Basement
Once inside, officers located three adult men in the basement of the property. Detroit Police Commander Rebecca McKay addressed reporters at the scene.
“Police went into the home and found three individuals, adult males, in the basement of the location who had apparently been brutally assaulted.”
She confirmed that all three victims were deceased.
“We are currently working through all of the evidence, and this case is very preliminary at this point.”
Authorities have not publicly identified the victims, but officials indicated they appeared to be approximately 50 years old or older.
The home was quickly secured, and the surrounding area was blocked off with police tape as investigators processed the scene.
Investigation in Early Stages
Police have not named any suspects, nor have they disclosed a possible motive.
It is also unclear whether the three men found in the basement are connected to the original missing person case officers were investigating when they were approached.
Investigators are working to gather forensic evidence and determine the circumstances leading up to the deaths.
