Plantation, Florida—The father of a South Florida high school student is speaking publicly after a former teacher and football coach was charged in connection with allegations that he attempted to groom his teenage daughter.
Yaniv Rosenberg said the case has deeply affected his family after authorities accused Colby Erskin, 39, of sending inappropriate messages and material to his 15-year-old daughter.
According to court records and statements cited by local outlets, Erskin has been charged with use of a computer to seduce or exploit a child and transmission of harmful material to a minor.
Allegations detailed in court
Rosenberg told reporters that what began as academic communication allegedly escalated over time.
“From ‘do you need help in math?’ to ‘you look cute,’ to sexual comments, to ‘do you want to hang out?’” Rosenberg said, describing the progression of messages.
He further alleged that Erskin sent explicit material to his daughter.
Authorities have not publicly released the full contents of the communications, but prosecutors allege the messages violated state laws regarding electronic contact with minors.
Employment history and arrest
Erskin was arrested on Feb. 5 in Sanford, Florida, by the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant connected to the investigation in South Florida.
At the time of his arrest, Erskin was working as a football coach at Mount Dora High School in Lake County. He previously worked at South Plantation High School, where Rosenberg said his daughter was a student.
Lake County Schools released a statement confirming that Erskin was dismissed from his coaching position immediately after administrators learned of his arrest.
“We are cooperating with law enforcement and encourage anyone to come forward if you have anything to share,” the district stated.
Officials clarified that the allegations did not involve students at Mount Dora High School.
Bond conditions imposed
Erskin was released on $250,000 bond and is required to comply with several strict conditions, including:
- Wearing a GPS monitoring device
- Having no contact with the alleged victim
- No contact with students or staff at South Plantation High School
- No use of internet-capable devices

The Broward State Attorney’s Office confirmed those restrictions remain in effect while the case proceeds.
Defense response
Attorneys representing Erskin emphasized the importance of due process.
“We believe it’s important to allow the facts to come forward through the proper legal channels rather than through media speculation,” said Adam Rossen, CEO of Rossen Law Firm.
Attorney Abigail Langweiler added that their role is to ensure the legal process is handled fairly and that all parties are treated with respect.
Investigation ongoing
Authorities have not indicated whether additional charges may be filed. The investigation remains active. As with all criminal cases, the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Parents and students with concerns are encouraged to contact local law enforcement.
