Florida Mother Accused of Leaving Young Children in Uber for Hours, Arrested on Neglect Charges

Sunrise, Florida – A South Florida father says he is deeply concerned for his children’s safety after their mother was arrested for allegedly leaving the two young children inside an Uber vehicle for hours.

Police in Sunrise arrested Emily Sabogal, 32, on Friday night, charging her with child neglect and abandonment following the reported incident.

The children’s father, who chose not to appear on camera, said he learned about the situation after a law enforcement officer contacted his family.

“The sergeant called my mom explaining that my children’s mom was arrested and that she had left the children inside an Uber driver’s car while she was drunk or getting drunk,” he said.

Arrest made in Sunrise

Authorities said the children were left inside the Uber vehicle for an extended period of time. Details about the children’s ages and exact timeline have not been publicly released.

Sabogal was taken into custody and later appeared in court Sunday. A judge set her bond at $1,500 for each charge, totaling $3,000.

She has since posted bond and was released from jail.

Father voices concern, plans custody action

The father said he is worried about the long-term well-being of his children and plans to take legal action.

“I’m very concerned for the safety of my children,” he said.

He added that this was not the first time he observed what he described as erratic behavior and that he intends to seek full custody moving forward.

“Moving forward, she needs help. I don’t understand how someone in the right mind would do something like this,” he said. “She’s obviously not okay, and this needs to end.”

Investigation continues

Police have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the arrest, including how authorities were alerted or how long the children were allegedly left in the vehicle.

As with all criminal cases, the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Child safety advocates emphasize that leaving young children unattended in vehicles — regardless of weather conditions — can pose serious risks.

If you suspect child neglect or abandonment in your community, contact local authorities or your state’s child abuse hotline.
