Orangeburg, South Carolina – A late-night shooting at South Carolina State University has left two people dead and at least one other injured, triggering a campus-wide lockdown and a state-led investigation.

Campus officials said the university’s Department of Public Safety is working closely with the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety and the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office to secure the campus and surrounding neighborhoods.
As of 1 a.m. Friday, the campus remained on lockdown while officers continued their response and investigative efforts.

Authorities have also not provided details regarding a possible motive or what led to the violence inside the student residential complex.
Classes Canceled, Counseling Services Offered
In the aftermath of the tragedy, university administrators announced that Friday classes have been canceled to allow students and faculty time to process the incident.
The university also confirmed that counseling services are being made available for students, staff, and faculty members affected by the shooting.
“The safety and well-being of our campus community remain our top priority,” university officials stated.
Students were urged to remain indoors during the lockdown and follow all safety instructions issued by campus authorities.
Community Shaken by Campus Violence
