Westlake Village, California – Authorities are searching for a well-dressed suspect accused of stealing a high-end golf cart from a local Christian school in a brazen early evening theft that was caught on surveillance.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department says the incident happened around 6:15 p.m. on January 27 at Oaks Christian School, located in the upscale Westlake Village area.
Suspect Allegedly Drove Cart Off Campus
According to deputies, the suspect managed to take off with a six-passenger electric golf cart, later seen casually driving it off campus through a middle school gate.
Investigators described the theft as unusual not only because of the item stolen, but also because of how calmly it was carried out.
“The suspect was seen leaving the campus in the golf cart without any apparent urgency,” deputies said.
No staff or security personnel intervened at the time, and it remains unclear how the suspect gained access to the vehicle.
Stolen Cart Valued at More Than $15,000
The stolen vehicle was identified as a E‑Z‑GO Shuttle 6 Gold Cart, a luxury electric model designed to carry up to six passengers.
The cart is described as:
- White exterior
- Tan seating
- Electric-powered
- 2023 model year
Authorities say similar models sell for more than $15,000, with some current listings priced just under $12,000 depending on configuration.
“This was not a standard utility cart,” deputies noted. “It was a high-end model.”
Suspect Description Released
Investigators released a description of the suspect in hopes that the public can help identify him.
The man was last seen wearing:
- Black pants
- Gray jacket
- White sneakers
- White button-down shirt worn open at the chest
Deputies described the suspect as well-groomed and sharply dressed, adding to the unusual nature of the theft.
Investigation Ongoing
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department says the case remains under active investigation, and detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from the school and nearby areas to track where the golf cart may have been taken.
No arrests have been made so far, and authorities have not said whether similar thefts have been reported nearby.
“We’re asking anyone who may have seen this individual or the golf cart to come forward,” deputies said.
Public Asked to Help
Anyone with information about the suspect’s identity or the location of the stolen golf cart is urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Tips can be provided anonymously.
The unusual theft has left community members surprised that such a high-value item could be driven away so easily from a school campus.
