Glendale, California — A contracted special education assistant working at elementary schools in Glendale, California, has been arrested and charged after multiple students accused him of child sexual abuse, according to law enforcement officials.
Glendale police confirmed that Joseph Vladimir Sanchez, 25, is facing eight felony counts, including possession of child sexual assault material, following an investigation that began after a report involving a young special needs student.
Arrest and Charges Filed
Sanchez was arrested by the Glendale Police Department on December 20 after allegations surfaced involving an 8-year-old special education student at an elementary school.
After appearing for arraignment on February 4, Sanchez was remanded into custody on $6 million bail and entered not guilty pleas to all charges, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Additional Victims Identified
Investigators say that two additional underage victims were identified in the months following Sanchez’s arrest. Authorities believe the alleged abuse may have occurred over an extended period.
“Detectives believe there may be additional victims dating back as far as three years,”
Glendale police said in a statement.
Law enforcement officials emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
Employment Status and School Assignments
Police clarified that Sanchez was not employed directly by the City of Glendale or the Glendale Unified School District.
Instead, he worked as a contracted employee through the Covelo Group and was assigned to:
- Columbus Elementary School
- Glenoaks Elementary School
School district officials said they have fully cooperated with investigators since the allegations came to light.
Authorities Seek Possible Additional Victims
Due to the nature and scope of the investigation, Glendale police released Sanchez’s booking photo and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
“Anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to contact investigators immediately,”
police said.
Authorities are asking parents, guardians, and former students who may have interacted with Sanchez to report any concerns.
School District Response
Glendale Unified School District officials stated they are working closely with law enforcement and are providing assistance in identifying potential witnesses and victims.
Support resources are being offered to affected families as the investigation continues.
Investigation Continues
Police said additional charges are possible as detectives continue reviewing evidence and conducting interviews. Officials have not released further details to protect the identities of the victims.
