Rainbow City, Alabama — An Alabama woman is recovering after suffering multiple gunshot wounds in what police described as an apparent attempted murder-suicide inside a Rainbow City apartment early Tuesday morning. Authorities say the woman’s romantic partner died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident unfolded while two children were inside the home, though police confirmed they were not injured.
Shooting reported early Tuesday morning
According to the Rainbow City Police Department, officers responded to reports of a man and woman who had been shot during the early morning hours of February 3.
When officers arrived, they found the woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was airlifted by helicopter to a hospital for emergency treatment.
Police said the woman is currently in stable condition
Man found dead at scene
Inside the apartment, officers also located a man identified as Eddie Charles Ellis Jr., 46, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said Ellis died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, consistent with an apparent attempted murder-suicide. Authorities confirmed that Ellis and the woman had been involved in a romantic relationship.
Children present but unharmed
Police said that two children under the age of 16 were inside the residence at the time of the shooting.
