Oklahoma Mother Found Dead in Trash Can at Suburban Home; Adopted Teen Son Arrested

Edmond, OK – An Oklahoma community is reeling after a 47-year-old mother was found murdered inside a trash can at her suburban home, with one of her adopted teenage sons arrested in connection with the killing. Police say the shocking discovery followed reports of two teen boys fighting with weapons outside the residence.

Authorities identified the victim as Spring Weems, who was killed sometime on Wednesday at her home in Edmond, a city just north of Oklahoma City.

Police Respond to Reported Fight, Make Grim Discovery

Edmond police were called to Weems’ home after neighbors reported seeing two teenage boys engaged in a violent confrontation. When officers arrived, one of the boys accused the other of killing their mother and stuffing her body into a trash collection bin, according to reporting by the Daily Mail.

Officers searched the property and found Weems’ body inside a trash can at the home. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accused teen was arrested for first-degree murder and taken to juvenile detention, though officials say he has not yet been formally charged as the investigation continues.

Both Teens Were Adopted, Lived With Victim

Police confirmed that both boys had been adopted by Weems, who was their sole caretaker. The teens are 16 and 17 years old, though authorities have not publicly confirmed which of the two is accused of committing the murder.

The family lived in a home valued at approximately $340,000, located in a quiet, sunny suburban neighborhood known for its family-friendly atmosphere.

Officials have not released details about a possible motive, nor have they disclosed how Weems was killed.

Victim Remembered as Devoted Mother and Woman of Faith

Friends and neighbors described Spring Weems as a loving, involved parent who was deeply committed to her children’s lives. Her social media accounts show frequent posts about attending her sons’ high school wrestling matches, celebrating their achievements, and supporting them through their teenage years.

Weems was also an active member of her church community, often sharing posts about Christian teachings, unity, and family values.

In one post, she reflected on teaching her children to love rather than fight.

“Our FATHER wants the same for us, so tomorrow let’s reflect on UNITY, as we are ALL brothers and sisters under the same Creator, & HE wants HIS children to live in harmony TOGETHER!” she wrote.

In another post, Weems shared a photo of one of her sons covered in paint after a church activity.

“They may come home dirty but they leave with a message of Faith, Community, Accountability, Camaraderie, Leadership & Moral Compass in their/our difficult teen years,” she wrote.

Neighborhood Left Shocked and Searching for Answers

The killing has stunned residents in what many describe as a peaceful, close-knit neighborhood. Neighbors said the violence felt completely out of place in an area where children regularly play outside.

“It is tragic because it involves our youth,” one neighbor told KFOR.
“This is a great neighborhood. Kids are always running around, riding their bikes down the street, and golf carts down the street.”

Residents expressed disbelief that such a crime could occur inside a home that appeared, from the outside, to be stable and loving.

Investigation Ongoing, Care Arrangements Underway

Police say the investigation remains active, and additional details are expected to be released as detectives continue interviewing witnesses and reviewing evidence. Due to the ages of those involved, officials have limited what information can be made public.

Authorities confirmed that arrangements are currently being made to find a new home for Weems’ other adopted son, as the family’s future remains uncertain in the wake of the tragedy.
