San Antonio ICE Vehicle Attack Leaves Officer Injured Amid Rising Assaults on Federal Agents

San Antonio, TX – A Cuban national living in the United States illegally, Robyn Argote Brooks, was arrested after authorities said he rammed two U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) vehicles in San Antonio, injuring an officer. The incident comes amid a dramatic nationwide increase in assaults targeting ICE officers, including a 3,200% rise in vehicular attacks over the past year.

Details of the Attack

According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the incident occurred in the parking lot of the Walmart Supercenter near Blanco Road and Wurzbach Parkway while ICE officers were conducting a targeted vehicle stop to arrest Brooks. Officials said he refused to comply with commands to exit his vehicle, then reversed at full speed into one ICE vehicle, narrowly missing an officer, before accelerating forward and slamming into a second vehicle, injuring the officer in the front seat.

“A criminal illegal alien rammed ICE vehicles in San Antonio, sending an agent to the hospital. Organized groups are obstructing immigration enforcement across the country, putting officers and law-abiding civilians at risk. These criminals must be arrested,” Gov. Greg Abbott said on social media following the attack.

One officer required medical attention for neck injuries sustained during the crash. ICE officers later arrested Brooks without further incident.

Background on Brooks and Entry into the U.S.

Brooks reportedly entered the United States through the CBP One app in 2024, an app used under the Biden administration that facilitated the entry of over one million foreign nationals who were deemed inadmissible under federal immigration law. Brooks is now in ICE custody and is being processed for removal.

On President Donald Trump’s first day in office, the CBP One app was terminated. It has since been replaced with the CBP Home app, which allows qualified foreign nationals to voluntarily return home, offering free flights and stipends. Nearly two million people self-deported using the app during Trump’s first year, according to The Center Square.

Rising Threats to ICE Officers

The altercation in San Antonio reflects a nationwide trend of escalating attacks on federal agents. DHS reported that between Jan. 21, 2025, and Jan. 7, 2026, there were 66 vehicular attacks against ICE officers, compared to only two during the same period the previous year. Death threats increased 8,000%, while assaults overall rose 1,300%.

Other recent incidents include the shooting death of a U.S. citizen during a vehicular attack in Minneapolis and separate encounters in Portland and Minneapolis involving alleged Tren de Aragua members and Venezuelan nationals, demonstrating a concerning rise in targeted assaults against law enforcement personnel.

National and Local Reactions

The attack has drawn attention from both state and federal officials. Gov. Abbott emphasized the need for enforcement and the arrest of individuals obstructing federal immigration efforts, while ICE highlighted the ongoing dangers faced by its officers in enforcement actions nationwide.

Conclusion

The arrest of Robyn Argote Brooks underscores the risks federal agents face daily and the increasing frequency of violent encounters targeting ICE personnel. With vehicular attacks and threats against officers on the rise, law enforcement agencies continue to call for vigilance and swift enforcement measures.
