GREAT FALLS — Fire officials are investigating two separate fires that occurred early Wednesday, January 14, 2026, one of which claimed a life in Havre, while another destroyed a well-known historic restaurant in Glacier County.
Fatal House Fire Reported in Havre
According to the Havre Fire Department, fire crews were dispatched just after 6 a.m. to a two-story home on Fifth Avenue following reports of heavy smoke and visible flames.
Firefighters forced entry into the residence, quickly worked to extinguish the fire, and located one person inside the home. Officials said the victim was transported for medical care but later died from their injuries. The individual’s name has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities have not determined the cause of the fire. An investigation is ongoing, and officials say additional details will be released as they become available.
Historic Cattle Baron Supper Club Destroyed by Fire
In a separate incident the same day, the iconic Cattle Baron Supper Club in the community of Babb was destroyed by fire.
Owner Charlene Bird Burns shared images on social media showing the historic building fully engulfed in flames as the fire spread through the structure.
“We are losing the Cattle Baron this evening folks. Please lift us up in prayer,” Burns wrote.
The restaurant was widely regarded as a landmark in Glacier County and was known well beyond the local community for its history and significance.
At this time, there is no official word on what caused the fire. Fire officials have not reported any injuries related to the blaze, and the incident remains under investigation.
Investigations Ongoing
Officials say both fires are being examined separately, and investigators are working to determine their causes. Authorities have indicated that updates will be shared as soon as more confirmed information becomes available.
