Philadelphia, PA — A New Jersey man, Vernon Baker, 41, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to abusive sexual contact after assaulting a female passenger on a flight from Los Angeles to Philadelphia on October 30, 2024, federal prosecutors said.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Baker repeatedly attempted to coerce the woman into sexual activity. When she refused, he exposed himself and tried to force her to touch him.
Details of the Assault
The victim, seated beside Baker, resisted his advances. Prosecutors stated that, despite her objections, Baker grabbed her breast over her clothing and untied her pants. Traumatized, the woman fled to the back of the plane and alerted flight attendants, who took immediate action.
The airline involved has not been disclosed in court filings or press releases.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Baker was charged in January 2025 with abusive sexual contact on an aircraft. Following his guilty plea on Wednesday, he is scheduled for sentencing on March 3, 2025.
He faces a maximum of three years in prison and a potential $250,000 fine.
